Sustainability
At Hoo Zoo we are passionate about helping protect the earths resources by being as sustainable as possible.
What are Sustainable Practices?
Sustainable practices are those that try to avoid having a negative impact on the planet by reducing the use of non-reusable and non-recyclable materials and reducing energy and water consumption. Where we cannot reduce our need for a product, especially those with greater environmental impacts, we should aim to be able to reuse it or recycle it.
Water
To help minimise water wastage, we run off an onsite borehole – not mains water supply. Our on site taps all have push buttons (including urinals) and animal water tanks have refillable ball valves that minimise water loss.
Packaging
Since 2018 we have made great strides in changing our cafe packaging and utensils to recycled or sustainable materials. By the end of 2022 we hope to have removed all one use plastics from our cafe.
Recycling
All waste on site is managed by a waste management company. We are very proud to say that nothing goes to landfill with most of our waste being recycled. Our animal waste is used by a local farmer as manure for his potato crops.
